The Seoul Metropolitan Council's Planning and Economy Committee holds a policy debate on the improvement of roads for pedestrian safety in the city

On the 21st, Yoo Yong, chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council's Planning and Economy Committee (Democratic Party of Korea, Dongjak 4), held a "policy debate on road improvement for urban pedestrian safety" in the second conference room on the second floor of the Seoul Metropolitan Council.

The forum was organized by Yoo Yong, chairman of the Planning and Economy Committee of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, to seek innovation directions for the environment and safety of urban roads and road improvement policies for pedestrian safety.

Prior to the discussion, Chairman Yoo Yong said in his opening speech, "In the past, urban roads were designed mainly for cars and focused only on rapid car driving, so pedestrians are exposed to the risk of accidents."

The debate was hosted by Kwon Young-hee, vice chairman of the Planning and Economy Committee (Democratic Party of Korea, proportional representative), and was presented under the themes of Innovation Direction for Environment and Safety (Professor Cho Yoon-ho of Chung-Ang University) and Road Improvement Policy for Pedestrian Safety (Professor Kim Do-kyung of Seoul City University).

"Improving the urban road environment where cars and people coexist is an important factor for civic safety," said Kwon Young-hee, vice chairman of the host. "We need to come up with fundamental and effective policies for urban road improvement measures for the safety of safety."

Professor Oh Heung-woon (Gyeonggi University's Urban Transportation Engineering Department), Yoon Hyuk-ryul (Seoul Research Institute), CEO Baek Won-ok (Daeil Tech Co., Ltd.), Lim Jong-kook (Seoul City Council Planning and Economy Committee), and Park Tae-joo (Seoul City Walking Policy Division).

Kwon Soo-an, vice president of the debate, said, "In order to reduce death accidents on living roads and achieve various effects of block packaging on low-speed roads, pilot projects and effect verification studies should be conducted."

"Today's debate was the first step toward creating a safe and pleasant city center that fits the role and function of urban roads," said Chairman Yoo Yong-yong, who organized the debate. "The Seoul Metropolitan Council will actively support innovation policies and road improvement policies for pedestrian safety."
